INTERIOR MEMBRANE INSTALLATIONS IN THE OTTAWA-GATINEAU AREA

WHAT IS INTERIOR MEMBRANE?
Another way to deal with a leak through a foundation is with an interior membrane, preferably in combination with a sump-pump/battery backup. This is often done in areas where digging would be hard, like between 2 houses that are too close together or if a client has new decks or landscaping and doesn't want to rip it out to waterproof. It's more of a water control method than waterproofing as instead of preventing entry of water into the home, it directs water that has entered the home to a drain below the floor and then usually to a sump-pump to evacuate it.
You are dependent on the sump-pump during the heavier rains. We give a 20-year warranty on the interior membrane and 2-year warranty on the sump-pump.
HOW IS INTERIOR MEMBRANE INSTALLED?
To install an interior membrane, we would break the floor along the wall to the footing, create a trench, install a drain in the trench, cover the drain with clear stone, apply a Platon® membrane to the wall ending in trench, and seal the trench with concrete mix. When we do interior membrane installations on block foundations, we drill holes in bottom blocks to allow drainage into the drain.
To install a sump-pump, we would break the floor in the dig area, dig down roughly 2 feet, install a plastic sump-pit basin that we perforated to allow water to enter, fill sides around the basin with clear stone, seal with concrete mix around basin, and install the sump-pump.

Excellent Company
As a retired civil engineer (former member of the OIQ in Montreal and previously in Europe, working on civil engineering projects, bridges, drainage, etc.), I was very satisfied with their work (repairing small cracks in the rear concrete block foundation walls), installing a Platon membrane, adding rigid insulation, installing a new French drain with gravel, geotextile, and a short, special waterproof membrane above the footing to direct water straight into the new drain, plus a sump (with a backup battery) inside my basement.
I wouldn't hesitate to call on them again in the future if the need arises. Gaétan always responded the same day... Excellent company for foundation repairs and drainage improvements.
